Eco Friendly Materials
Eco friendly materials are defined as being recycled,
reused, or from natural, sustainable sources. Bamboo is the foremost
example of this ethic – bamboo grows at the rate of 12 inches
of a day. If you cut down a bamboo forest to be used for flooring or
furniture, etc., it will grow back very soon. That is what is meant
by sustainable.
Recycled and reused items are considered eco friendly materials because
no new resources have to be a factor. Reclaimed wood is a great example
of this – an entire industry has sprung up rescuing and rehabilitating
old wood from deserted buildings. Modern methods allow the old wood
to be treated and recut and ready to sell. Not only is this considered
recycling, it also brings an element of history and vintage into the
space.
Tropical woods can also be considered eco friendly if the woods have
received certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The
FSC is a non-profit organization that works to ensure responsible use
of the forests of the world.
